The Corner that Held Us

Ubuopera is excited to announce ongoing plans for a new choral work, in collaboration with Lucas Harris, director of the Toronto Chamber Choir. The story of the fictional English convent of Oby in the 14th century.

In the midst of poverty, pestilence, overbearing clergy, ambitious nuns, backbiting, a mad priest, lust and gossip, the women of the nunnery eke out a meagre existence. Sylvia Townsend Warner’s epic novel of humour and humanity, The Corner that Held Them is adapted in a series of songs and choruses.

We have revised plans to workshop this piece for presentation in the Spring of 2025. More details to follow!
