Ubu Opera is a Toronto-based collective dedicated to creating new and vibrant music theatre that draws on the rich history of classical chamber music and the human voice, fused with the immediacy of physical theatre. Our vision is to bring these arts together to make theatre that is entertaining, thought-provoking, and deeply human.
Peter Thompson is a composer, director, and singer/actor. He performs mostly in recital, specializing in art song of the 20th century. Rooted in classical technique, he has developed a text-driven theatrical style that connects audiences to music with humour and humanity. He is also a dedicated teacher, and for many years has adapted and directed productions of classic plays and musicals for student performers. His adaptations have been praised for their joyous physicality and clarity of interpretation.
Dr. Erika Reiman, musical director and pianist, is a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician active throughout Southern Ontario. She is a staff member at Brock University, and faculty member of Brott Opera. Since 2011, Peter and Erika have collaborated on a number of concerts in the Toronto, Hamilton, and Niagara Area.
